Jailbreak Tweak: Make Sparrow The Default Mail App On iPhone And Enable Push Notification Capabilities
Recently, the Sparrow+ tweak has been posted in the Cydia’s app store. It is essentially a package which the jailbreak community had to provide in order to get the Sparrow iOS app to work the way in which the developer would have really intended. But for some reason, Apple didn’t allowed the app in the App Store with push abilities, leaving users of the Sparrow app having to manually retrieve mail through it.
The tweak rectifies the immediate issue of not being able to benefit from push email. Once installed, Sparrow+ tweak enables push notifications for the Sparrow iOS app. This means users can experience the app as it was meant to be when the Sparrow team was creating it. Many users are already familiar with the Sparrow Push tweak which offers the same functionality, however, Sparrow+ is not compatible with it and therefore it should be uninstalled before installing Sparrow+ tweak.
Enabling push notifications makes Sparrow the complete mail app and for most of the users it is enough. But, Sparrow+ some other features too as it makes the Sparrow app the default mail app on the iOS device. When using mail clients on platforms such as Windows, Ubuntu, and OS X, users have the ability to install additional software and decide which one they want to use as default software. This options isn’t available on the iOS, so Sparrow+ steps into the game and offers this feature.
The developer has also released a few little points to remember when using the Sparrow+ Cydia tweak. The Sparrow app requires to be enabled as the default mail client via the Sparrow+ preferences section which will be created in the Settings app. Sparrow+ tweak is available in the BigBoss repo on Cydia for free. It requires the Sparrow iOS app to be installed upon the iOS device.
Apple Jailbreak: Top Free Cydia Tweaks for 2012 (IV)
Zeppelin
If you want to sport an appealing legendary comic hero logo on your iOS device then Zeppelin is the tweak you have been looking for. This is one more reason to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The tweak allows users to decorate the status bar with cool and trendy logos of the Bat signal, the Superman logo and even Space Invaders. Thanks to Zeppelin users can even get rid of the carrier text and replace it with an image of their comic idol. It’s basically a Mobile Substrate tweak, so it has no icons on the Home screen. Carrier texts take a lot of up space on the iPhone status but with a small yet accurate logo. This tweak frees a lot space. Following is the complete list of logos you can tinker with:
- Aperture Science
- Assassin’s Creed
- Batman
- Beats by dre
- Blue Cloud
- Infiniti
- Pac-Man
- Space Invaders
- Superman
- Triforce
However, if you don’t like the above logos, then you can add your own customized logos. Just SSH into your jailbroken iOS device with iFile and add your icon images to the folder.
ColoredKnob
The grey color of the “Slide to Unlock” knob in the iOS devices is quite dull and boring. Many users want to change that drab color. Well, now we have the ColoredKnob tweak to do the trick. This tweak allows users to choose either Green or Red. However, it does nothing more than changing the color of your slide unlocker knob. The only problem with this tweak is that it presently supports limited colors – Green and red. But, we hope that the developer will add few more colors soon. ColoredKnob tweak is available in the BigBoss repo on Cydia for free.
Cydia App Store: Cookie Backs Up Your SAM Activation Ticket From Your iPhone
The recent SAM activation trick was a good one while it lasted, however, if you managed to get an activation ticked before the window closed then your iPhone can be unlocked for good. Our website has already covered the methods of backing up your activation tickets – manually and with Redsn0w. But, this Cookie is by far the easiest method available of backing up your unlock activation.
Cydia’s Cookie has two buttons: Upload Activation and Restore Activation. Unlike the other methods we have posted, this is not a local backup. Cookie will send the activation ticked Weiphone’s server, attached with your UDID (Unique Device Identifier) and IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identify). If user’s UDID and IMSI match as they did when user uploaded his unlock, Cookie will retrieve it for him if he has ever lost the data.
Some would be agitated about iPhone’s IMSI going to a third party, but we don’t think the information can be used to tap into your iPhone’s calls from China. However, someone in your neighborhood with an IMSI-catcher can tap into your iPhone without knowing your iPhone’s IMSI number in advance. We still recommend our readers to download the token from your phone manually and place it on Dropbox. But, if you don’t like to go through this trouble, then you need to keep your carried unlock data and the risking using Cookie won’t be high.
Interested users can download Cookie to backup their unlock from the BigBoss repo on Cydia free of charge. The app also includes the developers’ Twitter and Weibo accounts if you want to send those questions. So, how was your experience with Cookie? Share you experiences with us in the comments section below.
Jailbreak App: Batch/Bash Script Editor Lets Your iPhone Run Python And Bash Scripts In Batches
We have found a new Cydia app called Batch/Bash Script Editor which is intended to users to switch between terminal scripts, so they can quickly switch between sets of programs. A Cydia app like this can be handy if users intend to use MobileTerminal to do more than change his SSH password. The Cydia page states that python, bash (unix shell commands) and anything that can run from a command terminal can be automated into a script using Batch/Bash.
The Batch/Bash Script Editor is not a foolproof Cydia app. Whenever we open Batch/Bash Script Editor, an error pops up reading “ERORR!!! Error: is a dir.”. When we clicked on Settings to fix the error, another error dialog appears with a new text. Reinstalling or deleting through folders via SSH doesn’t fix the problem. The bug will be fixed in the next update says developer.
If a users need to run many different batches of code from a unix terminal, Batch/Bash is the best app available. But, be warned that you can activate pretty serious bug. The Batch/Bash Script Editor is available in the BigBoss repo on Cydia for free. Users can also donate money to the developer through PayPal at epic.orange7@gmail.com (Epic Orange suggests $0.50 and we know many would gladly pay $5 if the developer fixes the bug). So, are you also liberal arts major who are also a script kiddie at heart? Share some of favorite bash commands in the comment section below.

Apple Jailbreaking: How To Use Saved SAM Activation Ticket To Unlock Your iPhone
Locate the SIM card which was being used during the initial unlock process
Step 2
Open the iFile app on your iPhone and use it to go to the /var/root/Librarydirectory.
Step 3
Once you are in the directory, select the “Edit” button in the top right hand corner of the iFile user interface and select the Lockdown folder.
Step 4
After selecting the Lockdown folder, press the Zip button to create a compressed file backup of the Lockdown folder. Once the Zip file has been made, make sure to name it intelligently.

Jailbreak App: Use 4 Apps Side By Side On iPad With CardSwitcher App
If users can use two apps side by side on the Apple’s iPad, then the tablet becomes perfect substitute for a laptop. However, the native iOS does not have this feature, there is no way to reference a webpage while writing or follow a Twitter feed while watching Hulu plus. As we know that iOS developers from the jailbreak community have created apps and tweaks which offer functionality that iOS lacks. An iOS developer Kyle Howells has created a jailbreak app called CardSwitcher which allows users to use 4 iPad apps at the same time.
The developer has posted a video of the app but this only a proof of concept. iDownloadBlog reports that the app works fine on the iPad 2 used for testing. It is expected that the higher resolution of the iPad 3 and improved processing and graphical power will help this app running on the new iPad even better. Jailbreak community is quite excited about this app as its makes possible to use four apps side by side on an iPad.
The on-screen keyboard cuts into the usable screen space, so it would be used with an iPad keyboard case. Users can use half the screen for writing in iAWriter and the other half for Safari. We already have one app that makes it possible App PaperHelper splits the screen between a browser and text editor app, however the format is annoying. The app is basically for students while the top half of the editor screen is overcome with a larger header and name section, which is useless.
Until Apple offers something like this app, we will have to settle for hacks like PaperHelper and CardSwitcher. What do you think about this upcoming jailbreak app? Share your views in the comments section below.
iOS 5.1 Jailbreak: Pod2g Posts New Poll About Upcoming iOS 6
Users of jailbroken iOS device who have upgraded their firmware to iOS 5.1 are desperately waiting for the release of jailbreak solution. We all know that it’s going to be a long wait before the jailbreak developers found a public solution for iOS 5.1 jailbreaks. Meanwhile, French researcher Pod2g has updated his official blog with a public poll.
Most members of the jailbreak community believe that the best way forward is to produce the jailbreak in as short amount of time as possible and then push it out to the general public for release, but there are some concerns to take into consideration. There always been cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreak development teams, WWDC is coming in a few months and we might see new iPhone along with the introduction of iOS 6.
Though, the launch of the next major version of the iOS seems to be quite a way off, but it is possible that some of the vulnerabilities and exploits that the development teams have accrued during their research may be used in the iOS 6. Keeping this in mind, researcher Pod2g has updated his official blog with a question in the hope of getting opinion from those involved in the jailbreak community. The researcher would like to know if iOS device users feel he and his team would be better off waiting for Apple to launch iOS 6 before producing a public jailbreak solution in the hope that the vulnerabilities that they have procured are still relevant in the new version of iOS.
So, if you are one of these iOS device users who enjoy the freedom Jailbreaking provides, then go to the poll at pod2g-ios.blogspot.co.uk and cast your vote. While share your thoughts about this poll in the comments section below.
Jailbreak App: Use iBluetooth Call Jailbreak App To Talk With Friends
The iBluetooth Call jailbreak app which is currently running at version 1.3 is something which many would describe as a “novelty” as it allows users to connect to other jailbroken iOS devices through Bluetooth for the purpose of starting local voice chats which are passed between the wireless technology. Though, this app is a novelty, but it doesn’t give any real-life benefits due to the limitations of Bluetooth technology.
If we are to make effective use of this app, a number of people in a group need to install it upon their jailbroken iOS devices and start a chat session by connecting their iDevices through the app. Any user who plans to use iBluetooth Call will require to have a device with Bluetooth capabilities as well as a built-in microphone. The app is compatible with iOS 3.0 and above, so there is a change that users of the old second-generation iPod Touch could install this tweak and join the Bluetooth voice conversation party.
In simple words, an iOS device running iOS 3.0 and above with a built-in microphone or a wired headset with a microphone is all what it needs to start this app. The concept of being able to talk in a group through Bluetooth is quite an attractive one. The developer points out that it could be a nice thing to use in a small party or with friends. In real-world situations, the connectivity limitations of the Bluetooth technology makes this tweak a weak one.
You can get the iBluetooth Call app from the BigBoss repo on Cydia free of charge. The app is compatible with Bluetooth enabled device s which are running iOS 3 or above, and have a built-in microphone or an attached compatible headset.
Apple Jailbreak: New SBSettings’s Speaker Toggle Tweak Available
In the jailbreak community, iOS developers remain busy in created innovative apps and tweaks to add functionality in the iOS devices. The developers have created apps and tweaks like the AppSwitcher, CardSwitcher, and SBSettings which help the users of iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch a lot. Users of iPhone may have realized that the device can be set to automatically answer incoming calls in speaker phone. This option is by default available in Settings>Accessibility>Incoming Calls and can be easily switched between Default, Headset, and speaker.
This setting is basically intended to help people with additional physical or auditory needs; however, other users can use this option for a lot more other uses. Just suppose that you spend a lot of time in a workshop where you have to answers numerous calls while keeping your hands free. Constantly press the speaker-phone button throughout the day is tiresome. Many users don’t want to dig through all the settings again.
Now, a tweak called Speaker SBSettings Toggle has been release which allows users to automatically answer incoming calls in speaker-phone when the toggle is on and returns the iPhone to its normal state when it is off. The Speaker SBSettings Toggle is available for download in the BigBoss repo on Cydia for free. It’s a toggle which could be useful as the default Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles. To enable the Speaker toggle, user need to select the more option in SBSettings pane, and then select the Set WindowToggles option for either Dropdown Window or the iOS 5+ Notification center pane and switch the toggle for Speaker to ON.
What do you think of this tweak? Is it helpful? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
